Winnie is a 3 year old Miniature Dachshund from Canada.

Winnie is a sweet, happy, and funny little lady. She was adopted in May of 2016, and her new human Momma adores her! Winnie enjoys walks with her humans, chasing squirrels in the yard, and the occasional piece of yummy chicken (her absolute favourite food). Winnie hates swimming but loves running around in the snow, as long as it's not too deep as short dachshund legs and deep snow don't mix! Winnie also is a good sport when her Momma decides to dress her up, which is often. She also loves her squeak toys!

National Take Your Dog to Work Day

Are you tired of all the weird random national holidays like National Pancake Day, National Talk Like a Pirate Day, and National Cheesecake Day? 

I must admit I think some of them are a bit out there but here’s one you may not have known about that I can totally get behind.

National Take Your Dog to Work Day!

Yes, that is a real national holiday and its happening on Friday, June 23, 2017.

Let’s talk about how this started. Pet Sitters International(PSI) created this day to encourage businesses to allow dogs in the workplace for at least one Friday each year. It also helps celebrate the great companions that dogs make and to promote adoptions from shelters, rescue groups, and humane societies. PSI’s hope was that through the even dog-less co-workers would be encouraged to adopt after witnessing the bond between the dogs and their owners. 

This year I received an email from Kurgo highlighting some of there products for National Take Your Dog to Work Day, as well as some information and tips.

I was surprised to find out that this ball is not a hard plastic on the outside like the IQ treat balls Chip does have. The outside is a rubber that's sort of silicone or gel-like, similar to the soft rubber cell phone cases you can get. The inside maze portion is hard plastic. The smell also threw me off at first, I have no idea that the ball smelled minty.

Even though this is labeled as durable I wouldn't let Chip have it all the time because I'm afraid he would chew through the rubbery outside part. Any rubber toy he has ever had he chews holes in and destroys.

As far as the actual maze function it works fine and is somewhat challenging. We haven't put anything inside that was decently sized to provide a huge challenge. Small treats fall out super easy.

Overall this is a ball I think we could have skipped had I known it was mostly rubber. We hardly reach for it.

Pizza is an IVDD survivor. She has had 6 surgeries on his back. Her Mom saved her from a rescue… Now he lives with his mom, Stefy, his brother Speedy and his sister Marghe. She loves social media because she has met friends from all around the world. She loves all products to dress dogs up! (A dog after Chip’s mom’s heart! Lol)

Featured Friend - - April 2017 - First

April 2017’s first featured friend has been chosen!

The honor this time goes to Gus!

Congratulations Gus!

Gus is around 3 years old. He is a Chiweenie from the West Coast (USA).

Gus ended up at a shelter in California in the beginning of 2016. In April 2016 he was taken on a long road trip in a big truck up to Oregon with other animals that were given a second chance at finding their forever homes in a new state. Exactly three weeks after he arrived at the shelter in Oregon he underwent a long surgery to fix his broken arm and a new artificial metal elbow joint was created. Lucky for him, he met his foster/forever mom who works at the shelter and she loves him dearly. He now has close to normal use of his arm and has a great life in the pacific NW with his cat brother Ron and 17-year-old beagle-mix "grandpa" Django.

Gus loves having his teeth brushed every night (He loves his dog toothpaste) and really enjoys his dental chews, frozen veggies, and other treats.

BOBS for Dogs

BOBS from Sketchers have a new line that feature dog and cat patterns across them! The sale of these shoes that bare the label BOBS for Dogs benefit the Best Friends Animal Society. They are using the tag line "together we can save them all!"

Below are the pair with a dog theme that I ordered online from Peebles. They seem to be impossible to find in actual stores unless you live in a big city. The pattern shown below is called Pup Smarts and comes in black or taupe.

 Each pair has a tag on the heel of each shoe that says BOBS for Dogs.

A key chain comes attached with the price tag.

The pair of BOBs seen below are a pair I purchased from Peebles in-store while searching for the Dog line. Although they don't have any dog pattern on them they did have the BOBS for Dogs logo on the box and the key chain on them as well. Which makes me think that all of the BOBS shoes are going toward the Best Friend Animal Society.

I am all about having dogs on clothing and in home decor. So why not buy cute shoes that help a good cause?

Roo was born on the coast of Australia and lives with his mum and dad in Brisbane. He is obsessed with his tennis ball and he loves long walks and chasing birds. He also loves cuddling with his mummy and daddy, as well as going on adventures. He turned one on the 11th of March, and his favorite food is everything. :p

What's new around here?

You may have noticed some changes around A Dogg's Tail, or perhaps you haven't. We'll be giving you all the updates here!

First, let's start with the blog. We have had an uptick in applicants to be featured friends, thus we have increased from one friend a month to 2 friends a month. This averages it out to every two weeks, meaning on the first Friday and the third  Friday new featured friends will be posted.

Second, in addition to featuring friends, we want to start featuring "brands" on the blog. These will include Etsy shops that sell pet items, as well as other businesses and items. If you are an owner of a business that carries anything pet related and are interested in being featured on out blog feel free to contact us.

Third, in case you have been scarce around the web lately, A Dogg's Tail has added an Instagram account to its social media presence. (@ADoggsTail) It will be used for multiple purposes, some of which are promoting blog posts, featured friends, and the Etsy store.

Fourth, to help promote our Etsy store we are thinking about holding a model search on Instagram and adding an affiliate program. All the details are in the process of being sorted out. Also, we are working on figuring out pricing for possible product expansion. We are currently thinking bandanas, bow-ties, and tutus. There is also contemplation on lighter flannel coats for spring and fall. 

Fifth, last but not least, I (Jessica) am hoping for warmer, nicer weather to come back around and stay this time. I want to try to take some more photos of our four staff members to use across all things A Dogg's Tail! Also, I am hoping to get some huge in depth posts put up this year! We have a couple we have been working on for a while.

February 2017’s featured friend has been chosen! The honor this month goes to Frida!

Congratulations Frida!

Frida is a one year old Frenchie from the United States.

Frida was born in Hungary. Somehow she made her way to Canada. (Someone else’s dog must have eaten the paperwork pertaining to how I ended up in Canada.) I was purchased in May 2016 by my human sister, Hannah, who is a sophomore in college. She had always wanted a dog and after checking with her roommates got me. Her roommates soon began complaining because I cried in my crate when she would go to work.  The complaints stressed her out so much that she brought me to NJ to visit my now “mommy.” I was only intended to stay temporarily until Hannah figured things out, but when she went back to Canada she decided it was best for me to stay in the US. So my mommy, who had never even heard of a French Bulldog before, (can you believe that?!), ended up being my forever home. As it turns out mom was a bit lonely and having me was the best thing that ever happened to her!! (Even if I was a bit of a silly girl at first, peeing in the house a lot.)
