Introducing: Our Featured Friend

We want to give recognition to all of our wonderful friends and followers that we have met not only here on our blog, but also across our social media accounts. We want to start featuring one of our furry friends for an entire month.

As we grow and gain more friends and followers we may adjust the length and number of featured friends, but for now one a month is what we are going for.

If you are interested in being featured there is a small form of a few questions that you will need to email to us. Click here to go to the form, or you can view it below in this post.

To see who is featured you can click here. It will be an ongoing list with the newest featured friend at the top and the previous friends below them in chronological order.

Please feel free to ask if you have any questions! We will do our best to help you with any questions you have.

Sincerely,
Chip, Fiona, Amanda, & Jessica

Zeus’ Canine Cakes (Bake-a-Bone Recipe) - July 2016

INGREDIENTS:

CAKES:
2 cups of Whole wheat (or regular) flour*
1 ½ cups milk
1 tablespoon baking powder
½ cup shortening*
1 egg, beaten
1 tablespoon honey

FROSTING:
12 ounces nonfat cream cheese
2 teaspoons honey

DIRECTIONS:
  1. Plug on Bake-A-Bone, when the green light comes on, it’s ready to bake!
  2. Add all ingredients into a large mixing bowl and mix until well blended.
  3. Using a silicone or rubber spatula, spoon the batter into each lower bone mold.
  4. Close unit and bake 8 to 10 minutes.
  5. Cool on a rack for 30 minutes. For storage suggestions, or how to create a crunchier treat, see page 20.
  6. Mix frosting ingredients. Spread onto each bone!

FOR A CRUNCHIER TREAT:
After baking in your Bake-A-Bone, preheat your oven to 350 degrees; place your baked treats into the oven, and Turn OFF. Let bones sit in TURNED OFF oven for 4-6 hours to dry out.

FOR LONGER LASTING TREATS:
Refrigerate your treats in air tight container. Freeze leftovers for later.

*Whole wheat flour vs. all purpose flour   - -   All purpose flour is stripped of the bran and germ, the most nutrient-dense parts of the grain, during processing. Whole wheat flour retains both layers along with their vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, and fiber.

*Shortening vs. butter  - -  Each tablespoon of butter provides 7.2 grams (36%) of saturated fat, one of the so-called “bad fats” since it can cause your cholesterol levels to increase, raising your heart disease risk.

SPECIAL NOTES:
If substitute all purpose flour, it won’t be as healthy for your dog.
Many dictations say the all purpose flour tends to have a bigger impact on blood
sugar due to the body’s inability to break down the carbohydrates in enriched
                white or all purpose flour.

Sincerely,
Chip & Jessica
