Recipe - Country Life (Bow Wow Bites) - August 2016

Country Life – Meaty Treats (Bow Wow Bites Mini Box of Recipes )

Story from the card:

Jasper lived in a manor house in Shakespeare Country. His indoor kennel was part of the 16th-century building of dark timber beams and whitewashed walls.

Every day he was greeted with homemade treats and a good brushing. He and the master would often take a walk around the property—through the rose garden, past the kitchen garden, and down through the pasture. Along the way they would greet farmers hard at work.

Back home, he and the master would sit by the fire… Jasper, with another treat, and his master with a cup of hot tea.

     Country life suited them both.

Ingredients:
3 jars (2.5 ounces) baby food meat*
¼ cup powdered milk
¼ cup wheat germ

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
In a large bowl, combine all the ingredients and mix until well blended.
Roll into tablespoon-sized balls and place on greased cookie sheets.
Flatten slightly with fork and bake for 15 minutes or until brown.
Cool on wire racks and store in the refrigerator.
These may be frozen.

*Must not contain onions!

Why are onions bad?

They contain and ingredient called thiosluphate which is toxic to cats and dogs. The ingestion on onions causes a condition called hemolytic anemia, which is characterized by damage to the red blood cells. Onion toxicity can cause the red blood cells circulating through your pet's body to burst.
